"Yes we can"

Last night was a little like a dream for me. In my time on this earth I've witnessed some interesting history. Some of it I didn't understand until later, some of it I understood immediately. Last night was one of those times I understood immediately.

Today, 5 November 2008, is truly the dawn of the 21st Century in America. It is the start of the century of hope for many Americans.

Honestly, I never thought I would live to see a day like this. I didn't think the United States was ready to elect a woman, a jew, or a black man as our president. I'm very, very happy to say that I was wrong and last night seeing the tears running down the faces of Rev. Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey and other black faces in the crowd I joined them in empathy.

Last night, when CNN called the race for Obama, it was like I came up from underwater. I was able to breath freely for the first time in a very long time, and I didn't even realize it. I was gratified to see that my fellow Americans were as enthusiastic as I was to elect this man and restore hope and prosperity to our great nation. I am proud of the work I put in phone banking for President-elect Obama, and the money I donated to his campaign was not wasted. But the work isn't over yet. We have a lot of work to do, come 20 January 2009, to correct the damage done by the Bush regime, and the Republican party, in our country. It is going to take time to clean up the wreckage the GOP has left behind both at home and abroad. But we can do it. The work starts now.

"Yes we can."
