Not long before she was selected as Sen. McCain's running mate Gov. Palin appeared on CNBC. When asked if she would accept the position if asked she said she did not know what the vice president did. So, here's a tip Governor, the VP job is described in Article 1, Section 3 of the constitution:
The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no Vote, unless they be equally divided.Pretty simple, yeah? I learned this in junior high civics class. So one would think that we can assume that because she accepted the position on the ticket she went and read the constitution and knows what the VP does. We would be wrong. The Governor has gone one to several times get the job description of the VP wrong, most notably in the vice presidential debate where she implied that the VP "runs" the Senate.
The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a President pro tempore, in the Absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the Office of President of the United States.
After that disastrous performance you would think someone, anyone, in the McCain campaign would give the woman a copy of the constitution and tell her to read it. It only takes about 15 minutes. It's not a really long document. We would still be wrong. By this point we have to assume she is lying on purpose to engage in a preemptive power grab for the office of the VP.
Which brings us to Monday of this week. Once again Gov. Palin willfully gets the job description wrong and she lies to a third grader in the bargain. By now this is just sad and pathetic. What makes it even more painful to watch, as the drama of the McCain campaign spiraling down the toilet plays out, is the pathetic attempts by campaign operatives to defend her.
Yesterday McCain campaign operative Nancy Pfotenhauer appeared on Hardball on MSNBC and got her head handed to her by Chris Matthews. Let's roll the tape:
I'm not really a big fan of Matthews. He tends to be too erratic for me, lurching back and forth between sycophantic boot-licking of politicians to hard-nosed journalist. However in this clip he's got his hard-nosed journalist hat on and gets it just right. Ms. Pfotenhauer is simply pathetic in trying to defend her candidate's lies.
The office of vice president is really not tough to figure out. The job description is in the constitution and it doesn't take a lot of effort. Just show up at a Senate meeting now and again and keep breathing. Keep Breathing! Half of that job description we don't even have to think about, we do it naturally. But Gov. Palin can't figure this out. This alone disqualifies both her and Sen. McCain from holding the jobs they are running for. Anyone still supporting these two candidates needs to seriously, seriously re-examine the issues because they are seriously not qualified for the jobs.
Oh, and, in California, vote No on Prop. 8. Drop the hate.
