That Is So Not Awesome

As regular readers know I have a very low opinion of Microsoft Windows, and on occasion I have expressed some not very flattering opinions about Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer based on my experiences having to use Windows in my job. What I did not suspect was that the reason Windows sucks so bad is because Bill Gates, in his capacity as the CEO of the company he formed is incompetent!

No, really. He must be incompetent. Otherwise why would the CEO of a company send an email like this and have absolutely nothing he complains about change? Now bearing in mind this is from an email Gates sent in January 2003, when he was trying to download one of his own products, Movie Maker, from his own website, microsoft.com:

I am quite disappointed at how Windows Usability has been going backwards and the program management groups don't drive usability issues.

Let me give you my experience from yesterday.

I decided to download (Moviemaker) and buy the Digital Plus pack ... so I went to Microsoft.com. They have a download place so I went there.

The first 5 times I used the site it timed out while trying to bring up the download page. Then after an 8 second delay I got it to come up.

This site is so slow it is unusable.

It wasn't in the top 5 so I expanded the other 45.

And nothing has changed! Nothing!

It's no wonder Microsoft, as a company, in in decline and has been for years. There's no one who knows anything about anything in charge over there. It's no wonder that Vista is the heaping pile of bovine dung that it is. Apparently the engineers just do whatever the hell they want and don't listen to their bosses. The fact that Bill Gates, the man responsible for the products his company releases, can't even use his own products is simply amazing to me.

Windows is so not awesome.
